Brighton 64 - Esta vez va en serio - BCoredisc - LP/CD

The Brighton 64 are one of the most famous names in the music scene and long-lived "underground" Spanish was in 1983 when he saw the light the first musical project of brothers Albert and Ricky Gil where inspired by the famous battles between mods and rockers on the beach Brighton in the summer of 64 gave rise to this band that next year will copiuto 30 years of history, between divisions, creations of other bands parallel and occasional reunions. Today, after having recorded throughout the spring and summer of this year, sees the light of this new work, managing to reunite the original band memebri: Santi Garcia and Tino Peralbo, brothers Gil took from their old songs that had no effect drawer and never designed their quest for new album. The sound is a powerpop-influenced 60s very marked, not by chance that we have strong interference of organ and moog in their songs. In a recent interview said that this work was a great experience, because it met four heads all coming from different musical experiences after the dissolution of Brighton in 89, thus giving different pulse directional sounds to be produced for this new effort. In short, a work worthy of note and a sound that sets them apart even now, to tell you more .... long live to Brighton 64!

Marco Fasolini - All Saints Mod holiday 20 years - Mission Impossible Libri - Libro

Good work by Marco Bergamo with an average size and hardcover book that gives us a glimpse of the 20-year history of the rally now become the most famous of Italy and Europe. We have pictures of all the old and new Mods that have participated in the rally, some who still participate in the first event and say the new "regulars" of the scene, ie those who are constantly involved in the recent years. We have: the story is that all the impressions of the author in English to demonstrate the fact that the book has a strong European component, and which therefore is a product intended for a diverse clientele of Italian and. I have to say that apart from my photos, I do not like very much (at least one of my last fucking time you could enter the noo!), The rest is really beautiful color photos and black and white. Lavarone now, like many other gatherings of Europe has become a myth for the Mods and participate is now an obligation rather than a pleasure! .. Great guys .. keep it up!

The Enemy - Streets in the sky - Cooking Vinyl Rec. - CD/LP

This was billed as a comeback album. "Streets in the Sky" may offer a new lease on life for "The Enemy". In this review we will try to avoid the hype and unrealistic expectations. However, it is very tempting to look back at all the wonderful things that the band has been able to achieve over the years. Starting from Coventry, this group of three members, was able to conquer the world with their unique approach to sing and play music. The album was recorded with Joby Ford from Bronx. Includes 12 tracks (which is a rather high number), but they tried to ensure no loss of quality for each individual compound. "Streets in the Sky" opens with a catchy melody. "Give me the sign" is a play on words for another famous overnight. Tom Clarke is definitely very happy with the final product: "I am proud of every album we ever done, the sound seems solid and the songs are some of the best songs we ve ever written." They spent three years working on the songs and some people began to wonder if it was a break or a complete break with the music industry. "Give me the sign" offers a glimpse into the future, while "Bigger Cages (Longer Chains)" is a call to freedom. In this review, we appreciate the urgency of "Saturday" and "1 -2-3-4." The band takes a lighter note with: "like a dancer." The listener is seduced by "Come into my world." The aggressive side of the band is brought to life with "This Is Real" before slipping back into safety: "2 kids". Then you wake up with "Turn It On" and the song that becomes wisdom: "It is a race." I was struck by the energy, "Get up and Dance" and the strength of: "Make a man". In general, the album has a light touch and this is in line with the ideas that have been expressed by the Enemy, after their previous album focused on politics. C is a lot of material on "Streets in the Sky". The band has used contrasting styles of the songs so that the listener never really an excuse to be bored at any point on the disc. Only, perhaps, negative note is that the titles and texts are too similar to those of bands of the past (see The Jam). They remind us of earlier hits that could affect the credibility of the band.

The Moons - Fables of History - Schnitzel Rec. - LP/CD

The band second album of indie Mod Northampton, The Moons, was personal soundtrack of Sir Bradley Wiggins, his glorious victory of the Tour de France in the early part of the year ... A company is not just PR, and with glowing praise from Paul Weller ("a lot of love went into this record") and Dave Davies (The Kinks), big things are expected from "Fables of History." Manufactured by Stan Kybert (Oasis, Massive Attack, The Rifles and The Coral) and fronted by singer / songwriter / guitarist Andy Crofts (the man behind the Hammond organ in the band Weller), this work is timeless songs and sets British style the legendary Kinks. "Jennifer (Sits Alone)" recent single is a dream, "acoustic-driven muse", imbued with psychedelic 60s and resplendent with cavernous percussion, sfuature of organoi, mellatrons and even a trombone. The agreements are often a quality that knows how to back ("Love Double Vision", "Summer Inglese") with reverb harmonies and layers of water glittering guitar and Hammond. The sounds markedly distinctive Weller, and tones Beatlesiani give a stunning effect. C is the occasional kooky 60s style rocker added to the flavor, too (It is Taking Over) pushed through a low "fuzzed-up" and a battery "spanking." This album should put The Moons firmly on the map of the new bands of the indie scene / British pop.

Secret Affair - Soho Dreams - I-Spy Rec. - CD digipack

Secret Affair - Soho Dreams - I-Spy Rec. - CD digipackSoho Dreams is the new studio album maneuver for Secret Affair, which successfully capture the atmosphere, the attitude, the style and quality of established band with their debut album Glory Boys. The album has won critical acclaim and has set a very high benchmark for their peers in the Modernist revival in 1979. Soho Dreams are not just hits that mark, it also offers an album that the band has long promised to their fans. The title track sets familiar themes, the charm of the city, the loss of innocence, suss cynicism. With the scene set, Secret Affair get to work. Walk Away is what the band does best: the integration of a large hook line and guitar riffs with a Motown rhythm, punchy brass, soaring sax, and Ian Page philosophical pathos. Guaranteed to get a public channel where even less good at dancing succeed. The pace of the album is given a shot of amphetamine with: Turn Me On, which, Ian Page sets respecting the rhymes as the best poetic lyricists such as Ian Dury and John Cooper Clarke, placing them in a song that could easily fit on the B side Ill Manners. Love Unkind then cools the rhythm in a song examination of conscience which may have been written by Amy Winehouse. Ian Page delivers powerful sound with the passion of Otis Redding. You can feel the sincere sorrow of the artist. The intro notes of the first steps in the film Get Carter to introduce the beautiful: I dont Need No Doctor. The only cover of the album is an interpretation, the entire staff on the storm of sound that you will receive!. Lotus Dream is perhaps the pleasant surprise of an album where guitarist Dave Cairns captures the country blues of the Mississippi Delta, you can feel the extreme heat and sweat dripping down his forehead. The Secret Affair have never been afraid to embrace a variety of musical styles, but this album has a cohesion that develops their ambitions, each track brings something new to the melting pot and adds another level of depth. All The Rage is a piece for dancers and has a rhythm that recalls: Let Your Heart Dance. I can imagine Imelda May sing out loud and quests album is completed with two spiccanti songs: Soul of the city, whose passion Soul Jazz in the auditor s opinion over Kevin Rowland in attempts to give a new soul, and the final song of the album : Ride, whose statement of faith is pinning hopes of giving her a skeptical sound very contemporary! Soho Dreams not only meets the die hard fan for Secret Affair, but exceeds the glories of the past and captivate a new audience, the band rightly deserves. Ian Page and Dave Cairns can proudly walk aa head on this for their new job!

Is it true that the praises bring bad? From that wrote marvels at the end of 2007, the Vampisoul has alternated good things to some slip and a bunch of cute little things sometimes, more often negligible. The two volumes of the series R & B Hipshakers restored over the quotes with his fish in historical brands such as King, Federal and Deluxe in a time frame that connects the mid 50s and 60s. Dandy Warhols - This Machine - The End Rec. - CD

To tell the truth I never spent too much time thinking about the real value of the Dandy Warhols. At least one thing I always, so they make an amazing name, which moreover reflects well the nature of the game caught the collegiate background or if you prefer dick of them making music that has been able to fire at least two individual point across - I mean obviously a Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth 97 and the Bohemian Like You in 2001 - which owed much of their fame. It is one of their best work, varied and swollen, a cabaret citationist catchy, clever and shrewd guesses that almost all the moves, eventually seem quite appropriate in these days of schizoid mix of styles with the hype frantically in the viewfinder. So, once recommended to refrain for those in search of specific gravity and weight, we can amuse without scruples with pop art at the turn of 80s and 90s The Autumn Carnival (Xtc caught in the web Blur?), With evanescence Morricone between dreamy mirage of "Dont Shoot She Cried" with the Tanita Tikaram hypnotized Massive Attack "Well They are Gone," with groove ciccioso and perturbed wave of Sad Vacation, with curtain Magnetic Fields of Rest your Head, with sbruffonaggine neurasthenic Morphine of 16 Tons and so forth. I do not know if you understood the hint. Eventually even the touch of redundant and specious Tchad Blake - who was in charge of mixing - is size and appropriate conditions for play. If only for this, chapeau.

We are talking about Nina Zilli, Milanese artist that brings up the name of our musical tradition thanks to a retro inspired look to artists like Mina and which is clearly not dated but manages to be extremely appealing even to this day. These same features, except for the track that opens the record, can be found on the new album, "Love is Female", very tasty work that earns even more points to the artist. After the jump you can find our review of the project . 12 songs to play with, and that you can bring in as "summer memories" or where it seems to be in one of those old movies of the year 50/60. Born from the ashes of the most famous punk band called Roman Taxi, this baby quartet brings us, like a punch in the stomach, in a period of between 71 and 74 where in London dominated the "Glam Rock" or, as they call the bands more "working class", the "Street rock n roll." There are 10 pieces that sound very powerful and that resemble those created by bands such as: Jooks, the Hammersmith Gorillas, Slade or Sweet. With a iconogrtafia which is a mixture of football and rock from the road and of course all texts in English, they speak of issues typical of 70s rock: Girls, Saturdays spent in discos or pubs and speed of motorcycles chrome. Paul weller - Sonic kicks - Universal Rec. LP/CD/CD de luxe

Sonik Kicks, third (and apparently last) album, produced by Simon Dine and resumed the conversation of the previous two, showing us, since the cover, a revived going to experience it, not always behind the proven formulas of English pop. The electronic beats of Green, in fact, they combine perfectly with the choirs at the edge of Northern Soul, quite in contrast to the sparse vocal line, closer to electro-wave episodes starting year 80, which is balanced by a wonderful guitar, drowned by Echo / Delay and Wah, in the approach un'estremizzazione Nick McCabe's guitar. Sister of the already superb sound Echoes Round the Sun, showing a Modfather displaces entirely at ease in ideologically opposed to his land, just as heart warming and ears of the listener. The next The Attic is nothing but a nice divertissment, where the echoes of sprouting Orcherstral Manoeuvres in the Dark, both short and irresistible as anything else does not ask to be heard again. The strength of Sonik Kicks, in fact, lies in the fact that all the various "citations" and experiments are perfectly balanced with Weller's compositional style, easily recognizable and shown in the foreground, as if to hide the traces of the Kinks (That Dangerous Age), Blur (When You're Overgrown Garden's) and new friends Kasabian (Round the Lake). With Sonik Kicks, Paul Weller, shows us that despite advancing age and white hair, his disheveled creative urgency remains intact, even infecting even the large group of guests (including the inevitable Noel Gallagher, Graham Coxon and Steve Craddock) ready to get involved in roles totally unexpected and pleasantly surprising.

The fame of the earlier work led to the sounds, say a little more 'business, but the vein soul feels still very influential, and not detract from the beauty of her "Endlessly" I recommend to everybody' cause you can 'find priced more 'than affordable (8.90 euros).

The Who, The Mods, and the Qadrophenia connection - film documentario - DVD

Great report on the Who and why 'in 1974 they released the rock opera based on the life of a young Mod in the first 60, but the sopratttutto' cause they also developed the film and what to behave 'its release in 1979. It also describes minutely the estabilishment of modernist class youth in the 60's and how this development is' to reappear in the first 80 and second in the 1994 revival, all annotated by experts of the "Mod cultures" such as: Terry Rawlings and Paulo Hewitt , already 'writers of biographies of many groups or artists of the Mods and the Mod scene in the 60's and today, as well as dJ Eddie Piller' manager of Acid Jazz Records and Dave Edwards dJ R'n'B and soul of the Mod scene today. So 90 minutes of excellent period films also include interviews by the BBC to young Mods in Brighton! To the detriment of the graphics on the DVD, really trivial and poor, I must say that the purchase is really worth it. Precious!

COLORAMA - Box - Monkey Do Monkey Ltd 2010 CD

Reduced to a trio after the death of a component that is dedicated to the disc, the band released for the first time a disc for the European market, brilliantly overcoming any reference to the current pop scene with a great writing songs. The album winds its way through 11 songs, mock orchestral folk-pop, rhythm and supple vocals casual wrap around the sun and naive ballad "Box" and also provides space for watercolors folk "Autumnal", and dare not yield to nostalgic cues baroque. A scathing and ironic "Apocalypse Blues" and a superb "Out Of Line" restores the nobility of the finest pop, with an amazing groove of bass and keyboards, from the natural timbre. Poetry and disenchantment with the two tracks in Welsh, or the contagious chant of "Pan Ddaw'r Nos" and the more indolent "Mynydd Hud", but also reckless opera plots for the refined psychedelic ballad "Etiquette". This album deserves to be heard, especially for lovers of folk-pop.

The Red Inspectors - Are we the Red Inspectors? Are we? - AcidJazz Rec. LP/CD

Record of this great band out of London "hammond groove style", all R'n'B and jazz with hints of sitar and mellotron on the style of Big Boss Man We find in this new "musical project", one or two familiar faces to the Mod scene say: "upper class", as Andy Lewis on bass, who together with Paul Weller and Pete Twyman Miles Chapman give us these 12 pieces really groovy and danceable , essential for any young Mod which comes as close to the sounds' hammondjazz! So another central part of this label, which is great after redeeming the past productions very understated! Although this album I recommend to all .... to have a 100%!

Delta Swamp Rock - VV/AA - Soul Jazz Rec. 2LP/2CD

This compilation contains 25 songs composed by groups such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers or the likes of Link Wray, Cher and Johnny Cash! It 'almost everything from dirty rock, soul and blues with country intrusion in some cases, and fundamentally, and' the basis of what I create 'musically within the circle of the former were "confederates" in the southern U.S. between '68 and '75. A compilation that traces and outlines what this music through his big influence of black music to a whole generation of diets American boys until then mistreated by their own countrymen from the north, making them stand out and create a unique sound that influences' too much British rock bands of that period (see Faces, or umble pie). Good collection for those who want to know the bands that marked an era southern and especially to see how the soul and the blues permeates' through the then working-class South American!

Kaiser Chiefs - The future is medieval - B Unique Rec. CD

This new work of Kaiser and 4th leaves me a little 'baffled why' is a powerpop revisited the style of an early '80s new wave! We have 13 songs where the echoes of powerpop and soiled by dark synths and vocals, also sung, we refer to groups such as Soft Cell and New Order (more 'or less huh!). Certainly the classic pieces are also found "sun" of powerpop, some even end with a little 'psychedelic, but we say that the group while still having a big following in the United Kingdom, is not' managed to carve out a niche of fans well-defined Europe, especially for the continued research and draw their own sound that makes them recognize between the UK indie scene of the other bands! If I strike a blow for them I can tell you that after all of the disc and Amazon 'cheap (about 6 pounds) and if nothing else, you hear something different in indie piattume the landscape, I can also' tell you also that as style are not evil at all pole or 3-button jacket. But you know ', that the clothes while permeating through the imagination of youth Mod class Londoners, and not make a difference and' the sound that counts in the end! Recommended only for those who love India too!

Cooper - Mi universo - Elefant Rec. LP/CD

Recorded in London at Konk Studios in July and August last year and burned in Madrid at the end of the same, that of Garin Alex Diez, alias "Cooper", and 'his work in the recording field from 4th when they split the Los Flechazos. He added a well-dosed mellotron and sitar in some of its 10 pieces that make up the album thus giving ', the psychedelic reflections very elegant, which produces the type of powerpop. The promotion via the Internet and then sending the radio broadcast week after week, a piece at a time, so by growing 'interest in his new "job" that, in my opinion does not differ much from those already' products. All neat and well arranged powerpop vaguely reminiscent of his former Flechazos, but without the utiliuzzo Hammond organ and with the addition of a guitar in more'!!.. I are avid a fan, and for me 'always a great PURCHASE recommended to all!

"We are here 'to pay our tribute of respect to the great Aunt Nelly. She made us grow in respect and loyalty.'" Mr Bridger said that the funeral scene of a 1969 film called "The Italian Job". Well twenty years later (it was 1989 to be exact) I was writing the liner notes of the first 45 of a newly formed band Ext Mod: "The Clique". Now we are in 2011 and I am proposing to you that the founding members of the band are trying to create through their experiments in the field of music that most 'love, and that means' one of the 60's. They have created here a unique sound mixed with: soul, pop, blues and hammond grooves, but what I like best 'and' souls who have merged their music in this new project to revive the Aunt Nelly! Paul 'Smiler' Anderson. I wanted riproporvi the "liner notes" of this new disk, (but dated in the age ') Mod band formed by "guys" as Phil Otto, Dom and Alex Strickland petty, for years on the international scene most of all the' big Mod and gatherings with unmatched experience in the field of music, here 'have recorded for this fledgling record label (Mod I presume) and German have composed 13 pieces, some inspired by their own see "Waiting for Alex," other friends like "Smile "and" DNA Groove ", respectively, dedicated to Paul and Claudio .... more 'than this' I do not know what to tell you all .. just groovy soulpop and R'n'B ..
